Wyma Launch Next Generation Vege-Polisher
6th February 2006
Brush washing manufacturers launches next generation Vege-Polisher and with R J Herbert Engineering having successfully sold three Wyma VegePolishers in the UK and Ireland for potatoes, with another four to six being sold this year this new trend for cleaning is fast becoming normal practice.
After listening to customer and dealers Wyma Engineering will be soon be ready to sell their next generation in rotary barrel brush washing. The new vege-polisher boasts a range of machine improvements. The first being 100% exclusive new brush technology, new sliding and removable side access panels for ease of use and maintenance and new custom-made maintenance free brush shaft bearings. There are numerous options and variations are now available for greater customisation to customer needs including significantly more motor power. Options include electric or hydraulic drive, warranty extension to 24 months, flume in feed system and automatic belt tensioning system.
The original washer technology was developed in New Zealand in the late 1990’s by Wyma Engineering and has been constantly refined over the last 7 years. This type of washing now completely dominates the carrot and potato market in NZ with an estimated 80% of all table product being washed by this process.
The rotary brush system is proven particularly effective for washing potatoes. The quality of wash is far greater than conventional rotary drum or pressure jet system. Significant testing has proven the Wyma can remove rhizoctonia and skin staining allowing some product to be upgraded from waste or class 2 to premium status. It can also be run gently enough to wash early season potatoes without damage, while the brushing process has a polishing effect on the tuber skin leaving a noticeable shine.
Wyma have carried out extensive research into different bristle types and configurations and have over 20 types of brush configuration for the polisher which has made them the definitive market leader in this type of technology.
Both the original and latest machines offer significant benefits for customers. Wyma and Herberts are also offering maintenance free bearings. The Wyma custom-made bearing sealing system makes water penetration virtually impossible which is the key reason for enhanced bearing life. It therefore offers an excellent cost saving as no greasing is required. The bearing size also increases by 10mm for all Vege-Polisher models that significantly increases load capacity and life expectancy.
The V belt upgrades now available give increased brush speed resulting in greater capacity. The machine will also run quieter with no vibration and chain drive maintenance requirements are eliminated. The upgrade is simple and less expensive to change than replacing chain sprockets and the chain drive system.
