Process Industry – Polishing Up for More Profit at Tyrells

Polishing Up !!

The key factors which encouraged Tyrrells to look at brush peeling technology was to reduce costs and wastage levels currently associated with abrasive peeling. After
speaking to Herberts, who had gained experience of brush peeling in the carrot industry, they were confident of the technology transfer into the potato industry. Subsequent extensive trails at the Herbert factory in conjunction with Tyrrells confirmed the viability prior to order. Will Chase, Managing Director comments on the installation of the Vege-polisher, “The installation was trouble free and carried out over a weekend which meant it was not interfering with production. The resulting integration of the Vege-polisher by the team linking up with existing equipment has reduced potato and vegetable wastage by 30 per cent saving our business approx. £20,000 a week. It is also cutting out starch and other waste, giving a major improvement to this process. This has been the best capital investment on machinery at Tyrrells”.

This project is likely to be the first of several installations of this type of peeling at the Tyrrells site.
