Making the Most of Optical Sorting

Making the Most of Optical Sorting

According to Electronic Sorting Development Manager, Dr Lawrence Defty,  “To achieve the size and quality grading that any type of optical sorting claims to offer is solely dependent upon the method of operation, maintenance and programming. That is why at Herberts, we carry out intensive practical training, ensuring operators are comfortable with the technology. Furthermore, the machine has been designed for usability, with easy touch screen controls and many maintenance friendly features.”

To summarise the four areas, the Auto-sort team at Herberts would identify as being most critical for successful sorting are:

• Establish quality/grading criteria
• Make sure staff are well trained
• Produce regular reports to analyse data
• Carry out regular maintenance to avoid any breakdown
or throughput inefficiencies
